Thermotron took part in the Green Commute Week earlier this month on May 15 through May 21. Green Commute Week is a tradition that encourages the Holland community to think green when finding your way to work. This was Thermotron’s sixth year participating in Green Commute Week. We won in the large employer category with 15.07% participation and 2234.5 miles accrued.

The Macatawa Area Coordinating Council, or MACC, started Green Commute Week nine years ago to encourage Holland area businesses to take initiative in making green choices when it comes to transportation. The event is centered around National Bike to Work Day and requires employees to either carpool, bike, walk, or take the bus to work at least two days during the week to count for participation. Companies compete to see who can get the highest employee participation percentage and most amount of miles traveled.
Thermotron also values being environmentally responsible through reusing and recycling scrap from both the office and production stream. We make sure we take the waste to the appropriate recyclers to decrease our waste.
Although there were many ways to have a ‘green’ commute, many participating Thermotron employees chose to bike to work. Thermotron employee cyclists were casually referred to as ”thermo-cyclists,” after the term to describe Thermotron environmental chambers cycling from high temperatures to low temperatures. Green Commute Week is a fun event at Thermotron. This year we had a few more people decide to start making biking a regular part of their weekly routine. The event helps convince employees that green transportation is safe, cost-effective, and fun!
